The Elves, who once dominated the world, are now reduced to the fate of wanderers and vagrants, the tragic descendants of their broken empire. These haughty, depraved, and cruel races, while still mastering the art of magic, lacked discipline and organization and were unable to reconquer what the sons of man had taken from them. The few remaining elves are still regarded by the world as outliers rather than kings-their legendary immortality is now a curse, wandering among the ruins of the world built by their ancestors, watching their homeland collapse and waiting for death to come. The remnants of the great elven kingdom are still clearly discernible, visible in the skin color of each elf: the ancient families that ruled the cold north were characterized by fair skin color; those connected with the blood of the forest lords were brown; and the coastal families that had mapped the vast ocean were turquoise.
